So this week...

Finally have time to post about Rent...

This will most likely be in two parts...

I work on the other side of town, so I had to go as fast as I could to the theatre... And it had started to snow... Not frozen, just slush, but it brought out the idiots...

Anyway, I got there, and signed up for the line (the girl with the piece of paper said that there were only 32 tickets out of 60 spoken for)... Waited for the line and then waited in line (the lady at the box office, waited till exactly 6pm)... There were 2 kids in front of me and the guy kept going up to the girl to giver her a kiss... I actually considered clearing my throat, but I just ended up ignoring them... He did keep going on about whether he could keep his ticket... I wondered what he would think if I had told that I didn't keep my 2 from 2006, but still have my broadway stub... That and there was this guy behind me channelling Mark Cohen... I so felt like turning around and telling him that Mark isn't REAL...........................Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............................ Got my ticket in row bb...

Then I rushed home (in that god awful weather) to bath, change and eat... I left at 7:30 and got there too late to park in the lot at the theatre... The kid told me that there was underground parking... I felt like asking where... But I got the feeling he wouldn't know...

Anyway, I parked in the lot behind the library... Ran across the parking lots... And got in to the show just in time... Literally, by the time I sat down and took off my cart, Roger walked on stage...

Of course I worried the whole time about where I parked... It wasn't that far from the police station... And it had all these prohibited signs up... So I barely paid attention... I registered that Jed (Mark) walked on stage and the rest of the cast... Barely paid attention the Voice Mail #1, You Okay Honey and One Song Glory (I really wished I had paid attention to Heinz, but I couldn't concentrate)... They were halfway through Light My Candle, and I made a run for it...

I ran to the parking lot, and then went around the block (the theatre is on it's own street, but in front of the theatre it isn't zoned for regular traffic)... I couldn't get into the parking garage (you have to have a swipe card and I don't live in Kitchener)... So I went through and I could see the guys in the little building and so I went for it and they let me park... They didn't make me pay either :P

So then I ran back into the theatre... I couldn't get in the door... But finally someone heard me...I honestly couldn't remember the theatre's policy on readmittance, I was hoping they wouldn't make me wait till intermission... The first act is my favourite... They had monitors set up outside...They usher said I just had to wait till there was applause...So I watched the end of Another Day on the monitor, and then she let me in... I ran as fast as a I could...

Life Support was great... And On the Street... Sante Fe was jarring for me... The Collins and Angel were.... Ummmmm... Interesting... I've seen Jed before, but not Anwar and Kristen... They were... Really different.... Kristen in the heels is taller then Anwar, Anwar sings higher... And Anwar almost seemed uncomfortale in Today 4 U with their relationship... I don't know maybe cause I was used to Warren on the tour?

I forget the new Joanne's name, she was great (I missed Tango: Maureen) in We're Okay... I know it's a short song, but she truly impressed me... She lisps, but it actually adds to her performance...

Then the Maureen... I think her name is Kelly?? The ring through her nose was distracting during Over the Moon... She's really new, so her greenness comes through...

La Vie Boheme is my favourite and it was great... But I think any combination of actors can pull that number off... On stage I Should Tell You can make me cringe, but Jenn and Heinz pulled it off... They weren't as close as some of the other Rogers and Mimis I've seen (in every other performance I have seen the Roger holds me during Over the Moon and Take Me or Leave Me, but they didn't do it in either performance on either night)

The 2nd act... Anwar and Kristen still had me cringing... Some of the stuff that Kristen played for laughs, just didn't make me laugh...

Heinz wasn't an angry Roger either...Even the part where Mimi pushes Roger away from the Man during Christmas Bells didn't really work, cause Heinz really wasn't going after him in the first place...

Take Me or Leave Me was great Kelly and... (I will look up her name for the 2nd night) work well together... Kelly works well with the other cast...

Jenn kicked ass during Without You (both nights)... She cried, and I teared up... A few of the other actors around her did too..

I actually liked Kristen at the end of Contact... That solo he kicked ass at... I don't know, maybe his voice his an acquired taste? A bit like Daphne's is???

Anwar, proved he could do the solo for I'll Cover You Reprise... But he lost his breath towards the end... Kinda weird for a trained singer... I wasn't positive that was what happened till Collins entrance during Goodbye Love, but he could barely speak then...

Ummmmmm... Jed and Heinz seemed friendly, but they didn't really make Roger and Mark seem like best friends... Heinz seems kinds of reserved (which could be why).

That's pretty much the show...

Jed seemed to play Mark like a valley girl... He just had this inflection in his voice the whole night...

I wasn't positive at first it was Jennifer Colby Talton... She didn't look like I remember...Of course it's been almost 2 years since I saw her in Toronto... And she played Joanne then... She cut her hair, that and she's Mimi full time now...

And I have now seen 3 American Idol contestants now... The girl from the first season who played Tracey in Hairspray in Toronto, Frenchie in New York, and now Anwar Robinson... And one South African Idol Winner... I didn't realize he won like four years ago till I looked it up... I thought from the way everyone was talking about him it was last year...

That's it, day 2 to be posted soon.
